I’ve been reading several articles lately about how and when to pick a pup. I think most people know what they want when they start shopping for a pup. It is my job to figure which one of my females personality will best match their needs. I know I don’t have a questionnaire for you to fill, that is why I ask questions. But who you buy from regardless, you should always make sure that the person you are buying a pup from is reputable. Do they offer any health guarantee? Can the pups be registered? Are the parents OFFA certified? Do they offer to produce any of this information for you? I do so I’m bias but there are allot of people out there who just don’t care. A lab is a wonderful all around dog. They love you no matter how crappy your day was. They don’t need any reason to be with you, they just like being with you. And even if you don’t buy a dog from me, I will answer any question you have. My favorite is “Which color is easier to train?” I have no idea. They all have been easy. Now if you ask which sex, I would say female. They are smarter and seem to train quicker. Not saying that males are not smart, they just seem to keep their “puppy” personality longer. Now as far as when to choose your pup, the older the puppy is, the more personality it has. Most people who buy from me can’t wait to pick their puppy and I let them. They have been waiting a long time for it and want the knowledge that they have a pup coming. Is that a good thing? Sure. Now they can get ready for that puppy. So, when you are considering a puppy, please make yourself a list of what you want in a dog. If you already know it’s a lab you want, I offer pups usually only in the spring/early summer months.
